Friends and Family Toolkit

To assist you in asking your friends and family to participate in the Housewarming Drive, we have provided you with a sample email as well as some suggestions for a social media post or two. While the language matters, this toolkit is just meant to be a guide. We encourage you to use your voice and personality and to text or call if you're more comfortable with that. Feel free to use the included photo for your social posts. You can direct your friends and family to www.emmauschurchsc.com/housewarming to make donations. Thank you so much for participating!

Email (feel free to use parts of it for texting as well)

Dear ____________,

I hope this email finds you well and enjoying the summer months! I will be straightforward - I do have a reason for sending this. I hope you’ll take just a minute to read it over because what I’m sharing is important to me (and my family). Of course, I’m happy to chat more over the phone if you would like!

I (we) have been attending Emmaus, a church committed to fostering a community of people who are dedicated to living out the way of Jesus. The call to forgiveness, grace, kindness, and restoration. The call to make the world a better place and to be a good neighbor both individually and collectively.

From the beginning, that is who Emmaus has sought to be in the community - a good neighbor. It’s hard to be a good neighbor when you don’t have a home in the neighborhood. Over the past year or so, our church community has come together to pool the funds necessary to build our first home. As I am typing this, the finishing touches are being put on the building and we plan to move in at the end of the summer!

Our “house” has been built, but it hasn’t yet become a “home.” Consider what makes your home a home and not just a house. The meals shared around a table, the laughter and tears of long conversations on the couch, the comfort of your bed each night. If we are going to make a lasting impact on our community, we can’t offer a barren building but rather a warm and inviting home.

That’s where you come in. We need all the help we can get to furnish our home in preparation for new guests and lifelong friends. Would you consider making a gift today by purchasing directly from our wish list? Once you have made a gift, would you then share this with friends and family who might do the same?

I hope you know that I would not ask this of friends and family if it was not worth it to me. I believe in this community and the ripples of goodness that will permeate our little part of the world.

Social Media Post (long post to be used with graphic)

Acts 2:46 says “they broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts praising God and enjoying the favor and gratitude of all the people.”

I think it’s pretty cool that something about the ancient church’s presence in the community was a gift to the people that lived there, whether they were a part of the church or not. I’m excited to be a part of a church community today that is trying to be the same - a good neighbor.

It’s been hard to be a good neighbor without a home in the neighborhood, but I’m ecstatic to say that we are moving into our first church home soon.

Hey friend! I know I've talked to you about my involvement with Emmaus and my excitement for where the church is headed. We have really big dreams for the community, and they will only happen with prayer and help from friends and family. That's why I'm reaching out. Our first church home has been built and we move in at the end of the summer! But right now, it's just an empty building. To make a lasting impact on our community, we can’t offer a barren building but rather a warm and inviting home. We need all the help we can get to furnish our home in preparation for new guests and lifelong friends. Would you consider making a gift today by purchasing directly from our wish list? Once you have made a gift, would you then share this with friends and family who might do the same?
